rentmytext.in is India’s first online textbook rental company for professional courses that helps you save upto 60% of the cost (MRP) of the textbooks. Simply put, it is an online library where you can rent only textbooks / reference books (physical books not e -books).
Any individual with a postal address in Karnataka and is currently studying Engineering under VTU /Autonomous syllabus is eligible for using rentmytext.in service in Karnataka.

Step-2: Select books you like – Choose upto max. 8 textbook
(Note: you can rent only one title, per subject, per semester)
Step-3: Select the mode of payment – Cash on delivery
Step 4: Get it delivered to your door step
Step 5: Retain the text books for the full term of the Semester and on completion of your semester exams, you have to send the books back within 7 days by India Post (recommended) as it is economical.

There are two components:
I.) One time Subscription Fee (non-refundable)
II.) Rent (based on the plan you choose)
a) A onetime Subscription Fee: This one time amount payable will depend on the plan you choose and is valid for the entire duration of the course (all 8 semesters).
Note: This fee is non refundable.
b) Rent: This amount is based on the Plan you select and is payable upfront when you receive the package/text books from the postman. Please note rent is calculated on the MRP and varies based on the plan you choose.
For Example: If you choose Smart Student Plan & if the MRP of the book you rent is Rs.100/- you pay Rs.60/- as rent per book for the entire semester (you will be saving Rs.40/- ie 40%on the MRP). Similarly you will pay a rent of Rs.55/- in case of Value Plan & Rs.40/- rent in case of Book Worm Plan
(applicable only to certain plans - please refer Pricing Plan (Clause 16, below) for details of applicability)
How it works:
- Loyalty Reward: Eligibility Criteria: A student is eligible for Loyalty Reward only under i) Smart Student Plan–calculated pro-rata @ Rs. 500/ year & in ii) Value Plan-pro-rata @ Rs. 650/ year (refer table below- How it works) only on availing the services of rentmytext.in for the entire duration & completion of the course (all 8 Semesters). If a student discontinues/ or becomes ineligible due to non-compliance of any of the terms and conditions/privacy policy of our service he/she will not be eligible for this Loyalty Reward. Any arrears (refer Terms & Conditions - for more details refer clause5 above , clause 9, clause 13 below) such as dues, damages, taxes etc., applicable on the date of payment will be adjusted/ deducted against this loyalty Reward and only the balance amount will be paid.
- Eg: if a student has subscribed to rentmytext.in services from 1st semester onwards in the Smart Student Plan, remains and uses the services of rentmytext.in thro’ out the entire duration of all EIGHT semesters, without interruptions, he/she is eligible for a Loyalty Reward pro-rata@ Rs.500/year of completion * 4 years (All 8 semesters) = Rs.2,000/- subject to any deductions as mentioned above.
- However, those of the students who subscribe to our Services in higher/later Semesters will also be eligible for Loyalty Reward, @ pro-rata rate, as per the applicable plan they subscribe, provided they use the services of rentmytext.in for all the balance remaining semesters, without interruption. Loyalty Reward based on the Plan * balance no of years (upto course completion).
- Eg: If a student has subscribed to rentmytext.in services say in 7th Semester, then the Loyalty Reward he/she is eligible will be ONLY Rs.500 provided the student utilizes rentmytext.in services for the balance duration without interruption and subject to any deductions.
- Please note the amount of Loyalty Rewar payout, is based on the Loyalty Reward criteria as described above and as decided by rentmytext.in, is final.

As of today, we only have cash on delivery service (i.e) you will pay cash on the delivery (COD) of the books at your doorstep.
You will receive the pack chosen by you by EPP of India Post/ or any other courier service on a cash-on-delivery basis (COD) where you will have to pay the One Time Subscription Fee along with One Semester rent (based on the Plan you have selected).
The details of the amount to be paid will be mentioned in the accompanying invoice/bill.

In case you want to switch from Physics cycle to Chemistry cycle / vise versa or in case of change of branch also if the books are already sent to you, you will have to return the books & bear the courier charges, other incidental charges, if any at actual for return or exchange.
In case of change of Address, you will have to intimate us of the same by e-mail / update the new address in your user profile and we will send all subsequent courier to your new address.
In order that the books reach the intended person, it is always better to collect the books in person. However, if you are otherwise occupied / unavailable at the time of delivery you may give an 'authorization letter' in your absence to any one else. Please note that neither the postal service or rentmytext.in, will be responsible in case of non-receipt or misuse of the books. On dispatch of books you will be intimated by e-mail and sms of the same to the details furnished by you as appearing in your Registration details. You will normally receive your books within SEVEN WORKING DAYS from the date of placing the order.
The postal department/courier company will try to contact you more than once & if you are not available at the time of delivery even after repeated attempts, the books will be deposited at the post office /courier company office of your jurisdiction with an intimation of details by way of a letter/note by the India Post or the courier company & will be kept at the Post office/courier company office for 2 to 3 days. You may have to collect the same from the Post office/courier company office after paying the amount as per the invoice/bill. If you fail to collect the same after the said period/date mentioned in the notice, it will be sent back to rentmytext.in.

At present this service is made available for 1st & 2nd Semester Engineering students. We will be rolling out the scheme for higher semesters in due course. Rest assured, that you will get books for ALL the semesters.
Currently we have books which are recommended by VTU, Autonomous Institutions and popular books referred your seniors. To make the selection process of books simple, we have packages of books available. You can select our predefined packages or simply 'make your own pack', (create a package of your own) by choosing the books of your own choice.
Note: You will be allowed to rent only 8 textbooks at one time. Also, you can only rent one title, per subject, per semester.

Once you choose a plan you have to complete one FULL semester after which you can change i.e., you can only upgrade from - SMART STUDENT PLAN TO VALUE PLAN TO BOOKWORM PLAN ONLY and not vice-versa (please refer our web site for Plan details) by paying the difference of subscription fees and the applicable rent as per the plan you choose.

While you are renting out books for the first time, you need to pay both the subscription fees for availing our services + rental charges together when the books are delivered.
Each time you will get books in a cardboard box or such other suitable container, all the books are packed in plastic/bubble wrap sheets for adequate protection from becoming wet during transportation or storage .
We use and reuse our books. To ensure that you receive good quality books, every time each and every book loaned by rentmytext.in will have the following:

For the very first time you subscribe, in addition to the above you will get an acrylic book dock absolutely free for your convince and safe keeping of the books. The book dock is designed such that it can be easily be placed on your reading table. This need not be returned while you return the books. Please note, the book dock being a free compliment may be discontinued without notice or may not be available for certain plans.
As far as possible we encourage you to preserve the packaging material supplied (Card board box/plastic wrapping material) with the books and reuse the same for packing while returning the books. However, in case you want to use fresh material, you will have to pack the books in a plastic bag and place them in a corrugated box and seal it properly.
We request you to pack the books in plastic bags so that the books are adequately protected from rain / related damages and packed in a cardboard box.

The to and fro courier/delivery charges are to be borne by you at actual and paid directly to the Service provider and a receipt for paying the courier charges/delivery charges to be obtained for your record purposes. We recommend India Post as it is economical. However, if you specify any courier/logistics service provider we will try our best to send the same thro’ them provided they offer service in your area and bear extra costs if any.
If any book is lost or damaged (please refer the front inside cover page 'HANDLE WITH CARE' label affixed in each and every book), you will have to pay the MPR cost of the respective book.
Some of the Text books are supplied with CDs. It is important that these CDs are returned along with the book. In case you do not return the CD you will have to pay the MRP cost of the respective book.

Any change, after availing the services of rentmytext.in, such as, change of Branch/Discipline, College or City, you will still be eligible for our service. You have to intimate the change by e-mail and we will accordingly make further subsequent delivery as per your change request.
However, you will have to bear all the costs of packaging, courier and any other such incidentals, relates to such change request, if the books are already dispatched to you and you request a change mid-way.
